Foundations of My Psychotherapy Practice
I am a Registered Social Worker in Toronto, Ontario with a bachelor's degree in business management and master's degrees in both psychology and social work.
I draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities which I am trained in, which include: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems-Informed EMDR, Ego States Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, Attachment-Based Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Art Therapy, Mindfulness, Meditation, and Reiki.
My psychotherapy practice is also guided by teachings from my personal journey of healing and growth. Like so many people, I had my own struggles with anxiety attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts, anger, grief, and shame. I understand what it’s like to be in the dark: to be rejected and abandoned, to experience loss, to feel hopeless and powerless, and to be a target of discrimination and prejudice. I know how it is to be wounded, and this helps me to bring compassion and understanding into the therapy space. Furthermore, my lived experiences taught me a few things about how to deal with one’s woundedness in a healthy way, and I integrate these insights into how I tailor my approach for each individual who I support.
My Approach
Here is what you can expect from our psychotherapy sessions.
I will listen to you intently with my eyes, ears, heart, and spirit. You will have my full attention when you share your stories and struggles and I will do my best to put myself in your shoes. Sometimes, you and I will cry together. Other times, we will laugh together.
We will examine your experiences, thoughts, emotions, and behavior and make sense of them from different perspectives.
We will explore your goals and brainstorm ways to get past internal and external obstacles to reaching your objectives.
When appropriate, I will assist you in working with your consciousness. This could involve eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), visualization exercises, guided meditation, and/or clinical hypnosis. Also, if you are open to it, I can integrate energy work into the process.
Many people consider their spiritual life as crucial to their mental, emotional, and physical health. If this is the case for you, I will create opportunities for you to reflect on your spiritual life and its impact on your general wellbeing.
We will come up with a general plan for your sessions, however, we will also adapt the plan to what is needed in the moment. We will do the work together and we will frequently fine tune how we conduct our therapy.
